Description
The South United Free Church, located on Kirk Wynd in Abernethy, was designed by C S Robertson of Perth in 1866. This Gothic-style church features a four-bay nave and double transept, with vestries situated at the back. It has a square, buttressed north-east spire that includes plate tracery windows with two lights and transitions to an octagonal shape at the belfry stage, with gables on each face. The spire is slated and adorned with crockets and wrought iron finials. The north gable front displays a gabled doorway flanked by a single order of shafts and sculptured heads, along with a plate tracery rose window. The south gable also features a rose window. The church is constructed with snecked rubble and rock-faced dressing, and it has slated roofs with wrought iron finials at the gables.
