Porter's Lodge, Royal Northern Infirmary, Ness Walk, Inverness

The Porter's Lodge at the Royal Northern Infirmary in Ness Walk, Inverness, was designed by Mackenzie and Matthews and built between 1854 and 1855. This single-storey lodge features classical detailing and is constructed from ashlar masonry. The east elevation, facing the public road, has three bays, with a slightly advanced gabled bay at the center. This gabled bay includes broad pilasters flanking a panelled door, and a clock set in a keystoned semicircular recess above. The flanking windows have architraves that extend down to frame aprons.

On the south elevation, which faces the main drive, there is another advanced gabled bay that features a canted window. The roof sweeps down in a re-entrant angle towards the center. The lodge is fitted with timber sash and case windows that have a 4-pane glazing pattern. It also has stone stacks and is covered with grey slates.
