Description

Mid/later 16th century, Z-plan castle with square tower to

SW and circular drum-tower to NE. 4 storeys; roofless; rubble,

ashlar dressings; some vestiges of harling remain. Round-headed,

simply chamfered entrance in ground floor within re-entrant.

Depressed corbelled bartizans at SW and SE angles; corbelled

stair turrets in NW and NE angles. 4-bay single storey vaulted

wing projects south from NE drum-tower. Rectangular splayed

gun-loops and small round shot-holes; small round-headed

inlet for fresh water to rear.
