Description

55 Mitre Road is a detached house in Glasgow, built in 1924 by E G Wylie (Wright and Wylie) and influenced by J J Burnet. This 2-storey, asymmetrical house is located on a corner site and constructed from snecked yellow ashlar with polished dressings. The original glazing has been replaced with modern PVC, and there is one window enlargement at the rear.

On the north elevation, which serves as the entrance, there is a keystoned door set beneath a prominently voussoired arch, with a carved panel above. To the right, an advanced gable features a strapwork-headed window at the ground level and two small windows on the first floor. The gable breaks the wallhead and is topped with stumpy angle finials and a stylised aedicule at the apex.

The west elevation has two wide bays, including a large canted window on the left. At the rear, there is an octagonal conservatory with two low projections, featuring arched glazing on the east and west-facing sections. The house has deep eaves and a bellcast slate roof, with no chimneys.
