Description
St Joachim's Roman Catholic Church and Presbytery, located at 101-103 Inzievar Terrace in Carmyle, Glasgow, was designed by Gillespie, Kidd and Coia and completed in 1956. The building features a long church with an adjoining presbytery to the south, constructed of grey facing brick and topped with low-pitched metal-clad roofs.
The church has a rectangular plan and includes a low flat-roofed side chapel to the west. An open pitch-roofed belfry is positioned on the flank near the northwest corner, framing the entrance. The church has two tiers of windows, with diamond-shaped windows at the lower level and rectangular windows above. The chapel also features diamond-shaped windows. The north gable displays four diamond windows, with a pair of trapezoidal windows situated above them. The roof, which was originally copper-clad, is now covered in steel.
Inside, the church has a plastered interior with timber altar furniture. The baptistry is separated from the nave and vestibule by iron screens.
The presbytery is a two-storey building with a single-storey wing, both of which still have copper roofs. It is connected to the church by a corridor that leads to a robing room and sacristy. The entrance features steel gates and railings adorned with a white-painted cross motif.
