Description

9 Hamilton Avenue in Glasgow is a double villa designed by John Gordon in 1895, showcasing a symmetrical Arts and Crafts style. The building is constructed from red brick with some terra-cotta detailing and features red-tiled roofs. It has a twin-gabled center that rises two stories and includes an attic. Each gable is adorned with a two-story canted window and a wide basket-arched attic window at the top. The main roof slopes down on either side to a single story, which contains four closely spaced attic windows set below the eaves. The entrance door is flanked by single lights. The villa displays a variety of window types, with timber mullions and transoms throughout, and most upper lights are multi-paned. The eaves are bracketted, and there is a single dormer on each flank elevation, complemented by tall, prominent brick stacks. A modern garage is attached to each side of the villa. The boundary wall along the roadside is also made of red brick and features fireclay balusters, with square gatepiers topped with elaborate caps.
