Description

The Beatson Hospital Annexe, located at 140-142 Hill Street in Glasgow, is a classical tenement building dating from around 1850. It has three storeys and a basement, featuring a total of 15 bays arranged in a 9-6 configuration, with the first nine bays projecting by one bay. The third bay in the second section is blind on the first and second floors. The building is constructed of polished ashlar stone.

At No 142, there is a Greek Doric doorpiece with a mutule cornice, while No 150 features two additional corniced entrances with ramped architraves and consoles. All windows are sash and case with 12-pane glazing.

The eastern section has five bays on the ground floor, which includes a central entrance and four windows. The first floor features five corniced windows with architraves that drop to a string course at the first floor level. On the second floor, the architraves drop below the cills.

The middle section consists of four bays, with lugged architraves and corniced windows on the ground floor, which have carved aprons and a cill band. The architraves on the upper floors have been removed, but a cill band remains at the third floor. There is a short return bay to the west section with a similar window arrangement.

The western section has six bays, with doorways located in the first and fourth bays. The ground floor windows have a cill band with carved aprons, lugged architraves, and cornices, while the architraves on the upper floors have been removed. A cill band is present at the third floor. The building features a wallhead stack on the re-entrant angle and central stacks, topped with a slate roof.
