Description

Weddell and W Beresford Inglis, 1937. Modern movement,

8-storey former hotel. 12 unequal bays, arranged 3-1-4-1-3.

Brick with applied red tiles, now painted. Marble dressings

to ground floor. Metal casement windows, some altered on main

elevation.

ELEVATION TO SAUCHIEHALL STREET: central canopy over

entrance. W bays partially altered. Narrow bowed, recessed

windows flanking entrance. Canted semi-circular windows

rising from ground to 8th floor linked by parapet breaking

through roof line in 4th and 8th bays. 3 central fins rising

from 2nd floor pedestal. Fluted angle pilasters. 7th floor

fluted frieze.

E RETURN ELEVATION TO GARNET STREET: 15 windows, separated by

fins rising full-height in N bays, raised parapet over.

W RETURN ELEVATION: 4 bays repeating main elevation

detailing. Further plain N bays.

INTERIOR: Art Deco fittings. Staircase with fluted column

landings. Art Deco timber office at 1st floor centre.
