Hotel, 52 Virginia Street, Glasgow

The building at 52 Virginia Street in Glasgow is a classical tenement dating from around 1800. It stands four stories tall and is constructed of ashlar, with the ground floor painted. The exterior features cill courses, a base course, and a main cornice.

On the northeast elevation facing Wilson Street, the facade has six bays. Each bay has consoled cornices above the windows, which are set slightly higher in the second and fifth bays, where there were originally doors. The later entrance is located to the right of the centre and features a panelled door. The first and second floor windows are architraved, with the first floor windows corniced. A fluted cill course is present on the first floor, and there is a pediment above the central four bays, flanked by a blocking course.

The west elevation facing Virginia Street has three bays and a pedimented gable. The ground floor is detailed similarly to the northeast front, while the upper levels are simpler, with blind windows at the centre and an apex stack.

The south (rear) elevation features a circular stairwell that is off-centre to the right, with a doorway at its base. The bays are irregularly spaced, and there are blind windows in the outer left bay. The building has plate-glass sash and case windows and is topped with a slate roof.
