Facade Of Warehouse, 44 Glassford Street, Glasgow

The facade of a former warehouse located at 44 Glassford Street in Glasgow dates back to around 1860 and features Italian Renaissance details. In 2001, the building was redeveloped behind the facade into a multi-storey car park, which is associated with the adjoining commercial property to the south. The structure stands three storeys tall with a full attic and has seven bays. It is constructed of ashlar stone.

The ground floor includes a cornice that serves as a sill for the first-floor windows. There are giant pilaster strips between the first and second-floor windows, which are connected vertically by central moulded panels. The windows have semi-circular heads adorned with decorative roundels. The main cornice features masked brackets and is dentilled, while the attic windows are semi-circular headed and linked by a string course at the impost level. The facade is topped with a cornice and blocking course. Modern sash and case windows have been installed, along with a new deep fascia above the three ground floor openings. The car park has large outer vehicular openings for entrance and exit, with a central doorway serving as a pedestrian fire escape.
