Description

Thomson and Sandilans, 1910-12, as girls' school. Large 3-storey palace-rronted block with renaissance ornament. Red ashlar. Main front to Kingarth Street, pair baroque tall square pvailions containing entrances and with belfrys are linked by centrepiece, low projection at ground also with entrance, 1st floor tall round-arched hall windows with paired flanking Ionic columns, balustrade, near fully-glazed storey above containing art rooms; otherwise, single windows, key-blocked at 1st floor; (S) elevation to Calder Street repeats detailings of front but is simplified, pedimented centrepiece and shallow flanking pavilions all raised above wall-head; glazing mostly original; mutule cornice; slate roof. L-plan 2-storey janitor's LODGE, with shlallow-domed turret, presumably part of original compositon; also GYMNASIUM block to Calder Stret; ashlar piers and iron-railed low walls.
