Mount Florida Primary School, 1127 Cathcart Road, Glasgow

Mount Florida Primary School, located at 1127 Cathcart Road in Glasgow, was designed by H and D Barclay and completed in 1895. This two-storey board school is situated on a corner site and features a "palazzo-style" typical of their Glasgow schools, incorporating restrained Thomsonesque Greek ornamentation. The exterior is made of stone-cleaned red ashlar with rock-faced and polished dressings.

The symmetrical northern front has a pedimented centerpiece with a three-light window, flanked by two-light outer windows. The ground floor features pilastered mullions, while the first floor has Ionic-column mullions. The original glazing is roughly T-shaped, and a prominent mutule cornice runs along the top. The flanks of the building are not identical, with the boys' and girls' entrances located on opposite sides. The western flank facing Cathcart Road is more architecturally detailed, echoing the mullion design of the northern front. Here, the inner entrance bay is advanced and pedimented, with sculptured spandrels above the doorway and a thermal window at the eaves. The roofs are piended slate with corniced stacks at and above the wall heads.

The playground walls are also rock-faced and stepped to follow the slope, while the gatepiers feature decorative wrought-iron gates and railings.
