Janitor's Lodge, Strathbungo Public School, 83 Craigie Street, Glasgow

The Janitor's Lodge at Strathbungo Public School, located at 83 Craigie Street in Glasgow, was designed by John Gordon and Thomas Baird Jr and built between 1893 and 1895, with a date of 1894 noted. This school is distinctive for having a swimming pool on the lowest level. It is a symmetrical, four-storey building constructed from red ashlar, primarily rock-faced with polished dressings. The street elevation features a colossal full-width architraved panel linking the first and second floors, with pedimented outer pavilions on either side that are designed in the giant Ionic order. The building has a plain attic storey, and the roofs are concealed by parapets. There are separate gates for boys and girls at opposite ends, with the boys' gate located at the north and incorporated within the two-storey janitor's lodge. The property is also enclosed by iron-railed playground walls and gatepiers.
