Description
The Cannon Cinema, located at 380 Clarkston Road in Muirend, Glasgow, was designed by William Inglis and opened in 1933 as the Toledo Cinema. It was converted into flats in 2001. The building features a Spanish/American architectural style with a large, symmetrical tripartite street front that is ornately detailed throughout. A prominent feature is the large tripartite window with decorative glazing, set within a projecting central gable. This gable is flanked by small cantilevered balconettes supported by consoles in the re-entrant angles. The base of the building is made of red ashlar stone, while the rest of the structure is rendered. Additionally, there is a decorative frieze above the original second-floor windows.
