Bedford Social Club, 121 Eglinton Street, Glasgow

The Bedford Social Club, located at 121 Eglinton Street in Glasgow, is an Art Deco cinema designed by Lennox and McMath in 1932. The building features an ashlar facade, while the side elevations are harled. The modern entrance on the ground floor is complemented by largely intact wings. On the first floor, there is a striking 5-light neo-Palladian window adorned with four Doric pilasters, two demi-columns, and large colorful concentric arches above. The building is topped with an Art Deco pedimented wallhead and flanked by two tall grills. The wings include windows set within large stylized architraves that once served as sweetshops.

Inside, the vestibule showcases simple plasterwork, and the flanking stairs are illuminated by tripartite stained glass windows. The interior features simple Art Deco decorations on the cantilevered balcony, boxes supported by Doric columns, and ceilings with wide concrete arches. The plain sides are harled, and the roof is covered with red tiles.
