Description
The Co-Operative Society building at 61 Bridge Street in Glasgow is a four-storey, three-bay Art Deco former drapery warehouse extension designed by the Scottish Co-operative Wholesale Society Ltd Architects Department in 1935. The main facade features predominantly coursed ashlar stone, while the other sides are constructed of brick. The principal elevation is characterized by a variety of eclectic Art Deco band courses that separate the storeys, with bays divided by stylised pilasters and recessed openings. The building has a stepped parapet. The ground floor has been obscured to create a modern shop front, and there are six-pane metal-framed windows. The interior was not seen during the last inspection in 2004.
