Description
Queen's Park Synagogue, located at 2-4 Falloch Road in Battlefield, Glasgow, was designed by Ninian MacWhannel in 1924 and originally built as a synagogue. It was converted into flats in 2008. The building is primarily Romanesque in style, featuring artificial stone wall surfaces that are painted to resemble red ashlar.
The facade facing Falloch Road is symmetrical and two stories wide, with a taller main roof gable set behind it. The center of the facade is designed to resemble a narrow nave-and-aisles front, featuring a triple entrance that is taller and flanked by gabled outer sections. A tall apse, which can be seen from Lochleven Road, has a glazed semi-domed roof.
Inside, the synagogue boasts a brightly painted interior with varnished timber furnishings. The round-arched aisle arcades are supported by circular columns with foliated capitals, and gallery fronts are positioned between them. Additionally, there are iron railings along the street.
