Description

The Pink House at Home Farm, Wemyss Castle, dates from around 1820 and is a tall single-storey and attic, two-bay cottage designed in an L-plan. It features elements of cottage orne style, including timber-mullioned leaded windows and steeply-pitched jerkin-headed gables, and is harled.

The southeast elevation is symmetrical, with slightly advanced bays on either side of the center. Each bay has a four-light window at ground level and a three-light oriel window above, supported by decorative timber brackets that abut the jerkin-headed roof. A tall ridge stack is positioned at the center.

On the northeast elevation, there is an advanced gable to the left with a three-light window at ground level, and a door on the return to the right, which has two small windows in the lower slate-hung gable. There is also another door in a lower recessed bay to the right.

The southwest elevation features a door to the outer left of the gabled bay on the right, with a window in the lower bay to the left.

The cottage has multi-pane diamond-pattern leaded glazing in its casement windows and is roofed with grey slates. The coped harled stack has vertically-banded decoration near the cope, while the eaves are deeply overhanging with plain bargeboarding.
