Description

Hilton is an earlier 19th century farmhouse located on Hilton Road in Rosyth, featuring two storeys and an attic. The building has a rectangular plan and includes a small single-storey addition at the rear. Its design is symmetrical and classical, characterized by a pilastered doorcase and corniced ground floor windows on the principal southern elevation. The principal elevation is constructed of coursed dressed sandstone with droved arrises, while the other sides are harled, with ashlar dressings. Notable features include an eaves band and architraves around the ground floor windows, as well as coped gables.

On the southern elevation, there is a central entrance flanked by panelled pilasters and topped with a corniced lintel that extends above the cornice. The entrance features a replacement panelled timber door with a rectangular fanlight that has lattice glazing. There are flanking windows on both the ground and first floors, with an additional window above.

The northern elevation shows the gable end of the small single-storey rear wing at the center. There is an entrance on the right side, which was formerly an entrance that has since been blocked. To the left of the left return, there is a small boarded-up window. The outer flanking windows on the main block are set back, with the left ground floor window being smaller. A small architraved window has been inserted to the left of center on the first floor. Additionally, there is a small enclosed harled porch with a piended roof on the outer right, featuring a late 20th century panelled timber door.

The eastern elevation has a window at the center of the ground floor and another in the gable for the attic. On the western elevation, a small enclosed harled porch with a piended roof projects to the left, with an architraved window on the right return. There is also an architraved window set back to the right of center and an attic window in the gable.

The farmhouse primarily features 12 and 8-pane timber sash and case windows and has a grey slate roof. The gablehead stacks on the east and west sides of the main block are made of ashlar and include band courses, while the single-storey rear wing has a harled gablehead stack with a band course and round cans.

The interior of the building was not inspected in 1999.
