Description

The figurehead of Admiral Adam Duncan, dating from 1811, is a double life-size painted timber sculpture that was originally part of the prow of the warship HMS Duncan. It is prominently located on the parade ground and features the uniformed torso and head of the admiral, which appears to spring forward from a base adorned with carved foliage and various naval symbols, including sabres, a cannon, a ramming rod, and a flagpole. The figurehead has a lead backing where it was once attached to the ship.
