Description
Auld Hoose, located at 205 and 207 High Street in Leslie, dates from around 1900, with a late 19th century to early 20th century addition on the first floor. This two-storey, three-bay public house is part of an irregular terrace and features a flat-roofed extension at the rear that adjoins a building to the north. The ground floor is finished in painted coursed stone, which continues with the neighbouring building to the northeast, while the first floor is covered in painted cement render. The building includes a base course, a moulded string course, and an eaves course. It has stone-mullioned gabled dormers, along with a central semicircular-headed dormer that breaks the eaves line.
On the south elevation facing High Street, there is a round-headed door at the centre, flanked by windows in the adjacent bays, with regular bays on the first floor. The ground floor features fixed plate glass glazing with ornate astragals, while the upper sashes of the sash and case windows on the first floor have a small-pane glazing pattern. The roof is covered with purple slates, and there are coped ashlar stacks with cans, coped ashlar skews, and scrolled skewputts.
Inside, the interior has been little altered and includes a central entrance leading to two L-plan bars flanking a square-plan, part-glazed timber screened jug bar with a small hatch and snug. The interior features a simple cornice, full-height fluted timber wall boarding, and counter fronts. Each bar has a timber fire surround and 1960s fitted seating, along with a simple shelved back gantry. Enamelled lettering on the bar side of the screened compartment includes 'TENNENTS' and 'HAIG'S WHISKY'.
