Description

The Auldhouse Arms is a public house dating from around 1800, featuring a single-story, six-bay design. The exterior is made of rendered rubble with raised cills and margins that meet the eaves. It has cast-iron window and door grates, along with metal signage above the door that includes scrolled cast-iron decoration. To the left, there is a two-storey building that is internally linked to the rear, constructed from pink, squared and snecked sandstone rubble with chamfered margins and raised cills. This building has a pair of pitched-roof dormers with finials that break the eaves.

The roofs are covered with grey slate, and the building features ashlar skews, coped end stacks, and clay cans, along with cast-iron rainwater goods.

Inside, there is a vestibule with an off-sales hatch and a small snug area to the right, both from the 1970s. The entrance to the public bar is to the left, which has three-quarter-height matchboard panelling and a dentilled cornice throughout. A notable feature is the fine 1920s quarter-circle gantry with four upright spirit barrels and a curved bar counter supported by scrolled brackets. There is a green tiled fireplace in a partitioned section to the west, and a panelled snug at the rear west with integrated timber bench seating and another tiled fireplace. The interior also boasts a good collection of brewery and whiskey mirrors. A passage leads to the rear, which connects to a refurbished lounge bar, dining room, and function room in the adjoining two-storey property to the west. The main dining room features a large timber chimneypiece with carved double Corinthian columns on either side.
