Description
Catherine Bank, located at 5 Sands Place in Aberdour, is a 17th century house that has undergone later alterations. It is a two-storey, three-bay structure with a rectangular plan and features rendered stone with painted margins around the openings.
The north elevation, which is the principal facade, has a symmetrical arrangement with a central door that includes a letterbox fanlight, flanked by windows. The first-floor windows are positioned directly above the ground floor openings. On the west elevation, there is a single first-floor window to the left. The south elevation has modern inserted windows. The east elevation is attached to 4 Sands Place.
The house has a replacement six-panelled timber door and replacement 12-pane timber sash and case windows. The roof is pitched and covered with concrete interlocking tiles, featuring a raised skew and a beaked skewput on the northwest elevation. The gable apex stacks are coped, with the west side rendered and the east side in stone, both having circular cans.
Inside, there is a central hall with a stone winder stair leading to the first floor, and cornicing is present in the principal rooms.
