Description
Catherine Bank is a 2-storey, 2-bay house built in 1795, featuring a square plan and a later rectangular-plan extension from the late 20th century. The original structure is constructed of snecked stone, with long and short surrounds to the openings and quoins at the corners. The extension is rendered with raised margins around the openings.
On the north elevation, the arrangement is asymmetrical, with a door on the right and a window on the left, while the first-floor windows are centered above the openings below. The east elevation has a modern timber lean-to shed to the right, a ground floor window inserted to the left, and a modern 2-storey extension set back slightly to the left, featuring a door on the right and a first-floor window above.
The south elevation shows the extension built into a steep bank that rises to the south, with a door on the right, a window on the left, and a central window in the attic. The west elevation connects the original house to 5 Sands Place.
The main elevation features a 2-leaf timber panelled door and predominantly 12-pane timber sash and case windows. The roof is pitched, covered with pantiles, and has a slate easing course on the north side. There are raised, coped skews and skewputts on the east side, along with coped gable apex stacks and circular clay cans.
The interior has been modernized in the late 20th century.
