Description

6 Sands Place in Aberdour is a 2-storey, 4-bay house built in 1713, with later alterations and a renovation in 1995. It has a rectangular plan and features rendered walls with dressed and chamfered stone surrounds.

The west elevation, which is the principal facade, has an asymmetrical layout. The entrance door is located at the third bay on the first floor, framed by a moulded stone surround and a lintel that is dated 1713, featuring a recessed oblong panel. There is a coped stone forestair with rendered sides and modern iron railings. To the left of the stair at ground floor level, there is a small inserted window, followed by a large window that was formerly a door. To the right of the stair, there is another large window, also originally a door, and at the far right, there is a rendered outshot. On the first floor, there are two evenly spaced windows to the left of the main door and one window at the far right.

The north elevation presents a plain gable wall facing the street. The east elevation has an asymmetrical arrangement of windows, with large windows on the left and right, and an inserted offset narrow window at ground floor level. The first floor features three evenly spaced windows. Below the ground floor cill level, there is exposed stonework as the ground rises to the south.

The southeast elevation is another plain gable wall with a lean-to structure on the left, which includes a window close to the eaves and a door facing east.

The house has a 2-leaf timber boarded door and replacement 8 and 12-pane timber sash and case windows with horns. The gables have raised coped skews, and the pitched slate roof is complemented by replacement coped, rendered gable apex stacks with circular clay cans. The outshot features flat coped skews and red clay pantiles.

Inside, the house has been modernised, and there is a blocked door leading from the outshot into the main living area.
