Marantha, 18 Bellfield Street, Portobello, Edinburgh

Marantha is an early 19th-century, two-storey, three-bay house located at 18 Bellfield Street in Portobello, Edinburgh. The house has a square plan and is attached to the northeast by a later terrace. The exterior is rendered, lined, and painted, with a harled and painted side elevation. It features a mutuled cornice and a blocking course.

The southeast elevation, which is the principal facade, has its bays grouped toward the center. It includes a pilastered and corniced painted ashlar doorpiece with a deep-set modern door at the center, a semicircular plate glass fanlight, and a window above on the first floor. There are windows in each floor of the flanking bays.

The northwest elevation, which is the rear, was not fully visible in 1994 but shows a two-storey harled extension. Maps indicate there are further additions, likely single-storey. The house has plate glass timber sash and case windows and a piended graded grey slate roof with a truncated wallhead stack on the left and another stack on the right. There is a lean-to slate roof on the two-storey extension at the rear.

The interior was not seen in 1994. The boundary wall has been much altered.
