Description
26 Bellfield Street is an early 19th century, two-storey, three-bay house located at the end of a terrace in Portobello, Edinburgh. The house features painted bull-faced cement render with smooth flush quoins, polished painted block margins, and harled and painted side and rear elevations. It has a base course and a cornice.
On the principal elevation, there is a pilastered and corniced doorpiece with a deep-set nine-panelled door at the center, topped by a semicircular plate glass fanlight and a window above on the first floor. There are windows on each floor in the flanking bays.
The rear elevation includes various later extensions, including a two-storey lean-to extension at the center and single-storey extensions on the flanking bays. The windows are plate glass timber sash and case, with dormers at the rear. The roof is grey slated, featuring harled apex stacks.
The interior was not seen in 1994. The boundary walls are rendered with coping at the front, which formerly had cast-iron railings; only the cast-iron gate finials remain. The side wall at the rear is harled.
