Description
Rainbow Cottage, also known as Prior Letham Smithy, dates from around 1850 and features a Jacobean style with a single storey and a dormerless attic. The building is constructed of snecked rubble with polished end broached ashlar dressings. It has margined openings with a chamfer detail. The house includes a central gablet porch that has an attic light and two windows. To the left, there is a slightly advanced smithy gable, which is broad and features a large window along with a louvred opening in the gable.
On the left side, there is a set-back single-storey brick wing with a piended roof. The building has coped skews with steps at half their height and skewputts. The roofs are slated and have ashlar stacks, with polygonal shafts at the house, although the right-hand shaft is missing. There is one window on the south gable, which has a pebble dashed outshot.
