Description

Lion Cottage, located at 14 Albert Street in Nairn, is a mid-19th century building featuring a single storey and attic design with three bays and a central door. An early 20th-century single storey wing, built in the same style, extends from the north-west gable. The cottage showcases a tooled ashlar frontage with polished ashlar dressings and long and short quions, while the gable ends and the rear wing are finished in harled rubble.

The ground floor includes tripartite windows, with a matching five-light window in the wing. All windows feature raised keystones above each light, as well as above the entrance. A panelled parapet is interrupted by a blind aproned balustrade that leads to bipartite dormers, which are supported by scrolled brackets and topped with segmental pediments.

The building has corniced end stacks with square decorated pots and is topped with a West Highland slate roof. A low coped rubble garden wall with a quatrefoil balustrade flanks the entrance, while a high rubble wall surrounds the property elsewhere.
