Description
This is an early to mid-19th century L-plan farmhouse, completed by 1853, with later 19th-century additions to the rear. The main structure is two storeys high, with a three-bay central block and slightly lower, recessed single bays on either side, creating an irregular appearance at the rear. It is constructed of random rubble with contrasting grey ashlar dressings, and the rear is finished with white-painted harl.
The south elevation features a corniced, architraved door in the centre of the ground floor, with a deep-set two-leaf door and a two-pane fanlight above. Later canted bays with cornices and blocking courses flank the ground floor, with single light windows in the outer bays. There is a single window on the first floor in each bay, with crowstepped gabled dormerheads breaking the eaves.
The north elevation shows alterations and additions, including a central door and an advanced gabled addition to the left. This addition includes bargeboards and mock timber framing detailing on the jettied gablehead. A crowstepped gable end of the original building, with a lean-to outhouse at ground level, is blank and located to the outer left. A polygonal tower projects above the eaves on the outer right. A single-storey, two-bay gabled projection adjoins the east gable at ground level, and a porch addition is located on the rear in the re-entrant angle. A modern conservatory has been added to the west. The windows are sash and case, with a mix of four-pane, two-pane, and twelve-pane glazing patterns. Crowstepped gables, grey slates, rendered diamond stacks, and an unusual tower and gable are visible on the 1854 Ordnance Survey map.
