Description

East Lodge is a single-storey lodge, likely dating from the late 19th century and possibly designed by William Young. It is built of squared and coursed stugged cream sandstone with ashlar dressings, incorporating a base course and band course. The windows are mullioned bipartites with chamfered reveals.

The central entrance features a round-arched doorway with a keystoned surround and pilaster jambs, set within a pilastered and block-pedimented panel. The doorway has a panelled round-arched door. To the right of the entrance is a bipartite window, and to the left a bay window in a pedimented tetrastyle form with ashlar piers and narrow windows. Bipartite windows are also present on the side and rear elevations. The roof is covered in grey slates and is piended with a platform, featuring broad, decoratively bracketed eaves and corniced ashlar stacks.

East Lodge forms an A-Group with other buildings on the Gosford Estate. An Ordnance Survey map of Haddingtonshire from 1892 provides a historical reference.
