2 Craigielaw Farm Cottages, Craigielaw

Dating to circa 1835, 2 Craigielaw Farm Cottages form a symmetrical, shallow U-shaped row of six single-storey farm cottages built for the Wemyss Estate. The cottages are constructed of squared and snecked sandstone with ashlar dressings, and feature hoodmoulds above the principal openings. The design is in a neo-Tudor style comparable to Bothy Cottage within the Gosford estate.

The cottages are arranged around a central pend with Tudor arches, with two cottages flanking each side. Each cottage has a central door flanked by windows, and two piended dormers are set into the attic roof. The end cottages are L-shaped, with doors leading to the inner return. Later lean-to porches have been added to the rear. Some later windows have been inserted, with cement-rendered surrounds. The windows are sash and case, featuring a 12-pane glazing pattern at ground floor and 4-pane glazing in the dormers. The roofs are piended, covered in grey slates, with ashlar coped ridges and wallhead stacks. A low harled retaining wall with crenellated rubble coping encloses the front gardens. The cottages are shown on the Ordnance Survey map of Haddingtonshire from 1854.
