Description
The St George Hotel, located at 69 High Street in Dunbar, dates back to 1828. This three-storey building with a basement features a four-bay design. The front is made of vertically droved ashlar, while the sides and rear are constructed from rubble with ashlar dressings. It has raised cills and a cill course below the first-floor windows, along with a cornice and block course that includes a raised centre panel.
An off-centre Doric porch enhances the entrance, which has a substantial architrave featuring an inscribed panel that reads "Aedificata 1623 Renovata 1828." Inside the porch, there is a dragon symbol on the ceiling, double panelled doors, and a plate glass fanlight.
The hotel has tall windows on the first floor and smaller ones on the second. The upper sashes have six-pane glazing, while the lower sashes are made of plate glass; the rear windows feature twelve-pane glazing. The roof is piended slate with end stacks. The property is also adorned with arrowhead railings and has steps leading down to the basement.
