Description
These are a group of six single-storey farm cottages, arranged in a U-shape, built in the mid-19th century. The cottages face south and are constructed from roughly squared and snecked rubble stone with grey ashlar dressings. The layout includes a central pend, with a door flanked by two windows on each side. A pair of cottages extend at right angles on both sides, forming a lower wing that creates the U-plan. The cottages on the inner side of the U have a window on the gable, and a door on the inner return. The outer cottages adjoin each other, forming a pair of south-facing gables at the east and west ends. These outer cottages have a window on the gable, a door, and three windows on each return. The windows are sash and case, with a four-pane glazing pattern. The roofs are covered in red pantiles with a slate easing course, straight skews, and ashlar coped stacks. The cottages are located at Drem, near The Bield, as shown on the Ordnance Survey map of Haddingtonshire from 1854.
