Description
These are a group of six single-storey farm cottages, arranged in a U-shaped plan. They date from the mid-19th century. The cottages are built of roughly squared and snecked rubble stone with grey ashlar dressings. The front, facing south, has a central pend (open passage) with a door flanked by two windows. A pair of cottages extend at right angles on each side, forming a lower wing which creates the U-shaped plan. The cottages on the inner side of the U have a window in the gable, and a door on the return side. The outer cottages, adjoining each other, have a pair of south-facing gables at the east and west ends. Each return side of these cottages has a door and three windows. All windows are sash and case, with four panes to each window. The roofs are red pantiles with a slate easing course, straight skews, and ashlar-coped stacks. The cottages are located at Drem, near the Bield, as shown on the Ordnance Survey map of Haddingtonshire from 1854.
