Description

The outbuildings at Drem Farmhouse date to the late 18th century and are part of a larger farmhouse complex that was originally aligned east-west. In the 19th century, the farmhouse was extended to create a double-pile structure, with further wings added to the north and east. The buildings are constructed of random rubble with grey ashlar dressings, although the east elevation has been rendered and lined.

The south elevation has two storeys and three bays, with three tall windows at ground level and three smaller windows above. An entrance is provided through a recessed single-storey wing with an attic, adjoining the east gable. The porch has a cornice and blocking course, and the door has a strip fanlight, with two small lancet windows on the return. There is a canted dormer with a polygonal roof above the porch.

The west elevation shows the gable ends of the two building phases linked together. A large, canted tripartite window is placed to the left at ground level, with a cornice and blocking course. A single window is to the right at ground level, with three smaller windows above. A lower wing with a catslide roof projects to the north, featuring a doorway with two windows to the right at ground level, and a single window above in the attic.

The windows are sash and case, with a variety of glazing patterns. The roof is covered in grey slates with straight skews, and there are ashlar coped end stacks.

Excluded from the listing are the detached outbuildings to the east drive and the scheduled monument of St John’s Chapel. The statutory address was updated in 2017, and the buildings were previously listed as 'Drem Farmhouse and St John's Chapel'.
