Description

This is a late 18th century, two-story farmhouse, originally aligned east-west. It was extended in the 19th century to create a double-pile arrangement, with additional wings added to the north and east. The farmhouse is constructed of random rubble with grey ashlar dressings, with the east elevation rendered and lined.

The south elevation has two stories and three bays, with three tall windows on the ground floor and three smaller windows above. An entrance is provided through a recessed, single-story wing with an attic, which adjoins the east gable. The porch has a cornice and blocking course, and the door has a strip fanlight. There are two small lancet windows on the return of the porch, repeated to the right. A canted dormer with a polygonal roof is positioned above.

The west elevation showcases the gable ends of the two building phases, bridged together. A large, canted tripartite window with a cornice and blocking course is on the left at ground level, alongside a single window to the right. A lower wing with a catslide roof extends to the north; a doorway is accompanied by two windows to the right at ground level, and a single window is positioned above to the attic.

The windows are sash and case, displaying varied glazing patterns. The roof is covered in grey slates with straight skews, and features ashlar-coped end stacks.

The listing includes the farmhouse, outbuildings, and boundary walls, but excludes the scheduled monument St John’s Chapel (SM5465) and detached outbuildings to the east drive. The statutory address was updated in 2017 and the building was previously listed as ‘Drem Farmhouse and St John's Chapel’.
