Description
Melville House, located at 101 and 103 North High Street in Musselburgh, dates back to 1866. This two-storey building with attics features a shop on the ground floor and is symmetrical, with three windows across its façade and a recessed link to No 107. It has a steep, piended slate roof with a lead platform. The ground floor is constructed of ashlar stone, complete with a band course that supports the shop fascia, while the upper section is finished in stugged ashlar, featuring a raised eaves course and window margins on the first floor. The shop windows and door are in their original openings. The entrance to No 103, located at the recessed link, has an anta pilastered doorpiece with a lettered block pediment, and there is one window above it. Additionally, there is one monolithic gate pier surviving on the approach, and the building has three flat-roofed, square dormers.
