Description
The Congregational Church on Links Street in Musselburgh was established in 1798 and the building itself dates from 1801. This meeting house has its ridge parallel to the street, with the entrance located on the gable front within a railed forecourt. The central gabled porch features an arched doorway with a fanlight, flanked by flat-roofed projections, each containing one window. Above the entrance, the main gable has a central band with an arched opening and flanking oculi. The exterior is rendered with raised margins around the windows and doors, with the street elevation showing only two minor doors. The rear elevation is made of exposed rubble and was originally symmetrical, featuring a central pair of tall windows flanking the pulpit and one window on each side at both ground and gallery levels, although all but the left-hand ground-level window are now blocked. The tall window has been reglazed with modern frames, and the remaining windows are six-pane sash.
