Description
This is a row of two single-storey estate cottages dating to around 1840. Built of red sandstone rubble with droved dressings and chamfered reveals, they are located on the High Street in Aberlady and were originally part of the Wemyss Estate housing. The cottages are in a Gothic style and feature seven bays, with four Tudor arched doorways. Each doorway is flanked by a pointed arched sash window with a traceried glazing pattern to the upper sash. The roof is covered with red pantiles, with coped skews and four ashlar coped stacks. Stone steps lead to the doorways. A door to the right of the central section may have originally served as a pedestrian pend. The cottages are documented on the Ordnance Survey map of Haddingtonshire from 1854. See also numbers 1-10 Red Row, Main Street, and The Wagon Inn, Main Street, which are listed separately.
