Description
Merrileas Cottage is a late 18th century cottage, likely originally comprising two rooms. It is constructed of whitewashed, squared and stugged rubble with painted, droved ashlar margins. The facade has five asymmetrical bays, with a near-contemporary single bay addition. A later, part-glazed wooden porch fronts the central door, with two windows to the left and two widely spaced windows to the right, a further single bay addition extending beyond the skew. The windows are 12-pane sash and case. Other features include ashlar coped skews, renewed red pantiles with a tile eaves easing course, and coped stacks. A low garden retaining wall runs along the Main Street, with modern railings. An Ordnance Survey map from 1854 depicts the property.
