Description
Wayside is a house probably built in the mid-18th century, with its windows altered in the 19th century. This two-storey, three-bay square-plan house is located on the roadside and is linked to St Mary's at a right angle to the northeast. It is constructed of pink sandstone rubble with harl pointing and features ashlar window surrounds, along with a battered base course.
On the northwest elevation, there is a door at the center, flanked by windows in the adjacent bays. The southwest elevation, which faces the wynd, has three irregularly spaced low windows at ground level, along with one window each on the first floor and in the attic, both positioned off-center to the right. The southeast elevation includes a flat-roofed, harled later projection at the center, with flanking windows.
The sash and case windows have a four-pane glazing pattern. The roof is covered with grey slates, and there are ashlar coped skews. The house features gable end and mutual gable stacks.
