Description

Herbert Villa is a house located in Chirnside, built around 1800 with later alterations. It is a two-storey, originally three-bay, rectangular-plan structure that has had a bay added at the ground level. The exterior is made of harl-pointed sandstone rubble with tooled rubble dressings, featuring a raised eaves course, droved rubble quoins, and long and short surrounds to the openings. The windows have painted margins and flush cills.

On the southwest (entrance) elevation, there is a replacement timber door in the center at ground level, which has an integral oval fanlight above. A single window is aligned above this door, and there is a small single window in the bay to the left at ground level. There are single windows on both floors in the outer left and right bays.

The northwest (side) elevation features a small attic light offset to the right of center. The northeast (rear) elevation was not visible in 1998. The southeast (side) elevation has a small attic light offset to the left of center.

The windows are plate glass timber sash and case. The roof is covered with grey slate and has sandstone ridging and stone-coped skews. There are corniced, brick-built apex stacks with various circular cans, and some cast-iron rainwater goods.

The interior was not seen in 1998. The property is enclosed by a low coped rubble boundary wall at the front, which includes an iron pedestrian entry gate and a timber vehicular gate.
