Description
Flowerbank is a house built around 1793, with later alterations. It is a two-storey, three-bay structure made of rubble, with the northern elevation painted. The building features painted raised margins and angle margins, along with red sandstone quoins at the corners and stacks. There is a base course on the southern side. To the north, there is a two-storey gabled wing that has been raised in brick from a single-storey rubble structure.
On the southern elevation, there is a central pedimented doorpiece with engaged columns and a modern door. The outer bays at ground floor have later flat-roofed timber canted windows. The first floor has regularly spaced windows, with a smaller window in the center.
The eastern elevation facing Millcroft Road is blank. The western elevation has regularly spaced windows on both the ground and first floors, with a smaller window on the left at ground floor. The wing to the north is advanced to the left.
The northern elevation has a window on both the ground and first floors to the left, with the wing attached to the center and right. This wing, raised from a single storey in brick, has a window at ground floor to the left, and small windows on both the left and right at the first floor. There is a door and three windows at ground floor and three windows at first floor on the northern side. The western gable is blank, while there are windows at ground and first floors on the southern side.
The house features sash and case windows with a variety of glazing, including plate glass on the southern elevation, and 4-pane, 8-pane, and 12-pane windows. There are three slate-hung piended dormer windows on the southern pitch, canted to the left and right, with a small one in the center. The gable has red sandstone coped skews, gablehead stacks, and is covered with grey slates and octagonal cans.
The property also includes quadrant and boundary walls with a rubble boundary wall topped with semicircular ashlar coping, and rock-faced granite coping at the gateway. Square granite gatepiers with rock-faced capping support wooden gates.
