Description
Pantiles is a single-storey row of buildings on Main Street in Stenton, likely constructed at different times in the 18th century and featuring some alterations. Originally, it consisted of two 2-bay cottages, with a later recessed building added to the south, which has been absorbed into one property as of 1989. The structure is made of pink sandstone rubble with later stugged dressings. The roadside frontage has two doors that have been blocked and converted into windows, along with two outer windows and two doors in the south extension. The sash and case windows have a 4-pane glazing pattern. The roof is covered with pantiles, and there is a ridge stack on the former mutual gable of the two-bay cottages. The earlier cottages exhibit a distinctive early East Lothian skew form with a steeper pitch.
