Description
Floral Cottage in Stenton is a single-storey, three-bay cottage built in the later 18th century, with some later alterations and additions. The cottage is constructed from pink sandstone rubble with harl pointing, featuring an ashlar surround to the lower door, while the other openings are cement rendered.
On the southeast elevation, there is a central door flanked to the left by a blocked, lower former door, which has been replaced by an enlarged window in the outer bay, and a bipartite window inserted to the outer right. The northwest elevation includes a piend-roofed addition to the left, which has windows on each side and a door in the southwest re-entrant. There is a central door with a window above it, along with a lower, slate-roofed lean-to to the outer left.
The cottage has a blank gable facing Mid Green, with a line indicating a former lower adjoining gable. The northeast side features blank walls with a blocked attic window. The sash and case windows display a small-pane glazing pattern. Notably, the cottage has a distinctive East Lothian ashlar skew form and coped end stacks, topped with pantiles.
