Description

The Post Office located at 41-45 High Street in Musselburgh was built in 1903 by W T Oldrieve and showcases Edwardian Baroque architecture. This two-storey building features a wide frontage with four windows. The entrance bay is positioned to the right and includes an architraved doorpiece with a consoled dummy balcony above.

On the first floor, the window is recessed and framed by Doric columns, with a semi-circular open pediment that rises into a raised parapet adorned with a cartouche of the Royal Arms. The left-hand windows are closely spaced, and the ground floor windows are architraved and banded together in a Gibbsian style. The first-floor windows are recessed over a cill cornice, with panelled pilasters that display swags hung from lions' heads between them. A main cornice and a balustraded parapet conceal the slated roof. The upper sashes consist of six panes, while the lower sashes on the first floor are double-pane, and the ground floor windows are also recessed.
