Description

The Post Office Sorting Office, dated 1904, is a small two-storey baroque building made of red brick with stone dressings. It features a three-bay front with slightly canted outer bays, all designed to resemble one large Dutch gable. The parapets of the outer bays curve upwards, and a heavy segmental pediment and cornice crown the center of the building. These elements rest on panelled first-floor pilasters made of brighter red brick. The sash windows are framed with rusticated architraves. At the center of the ground floor, there is a depiction of the Royal Arms of Edward VII. The entrance is located on the right side and features a round arch with a moulded architrave and keystone, framed in an entablature surround with swags in the spandrels. The side elevation is only one storey tall but includes another Dutch gable towards the back.
