Sasine Office, General Register House, Princes Street, Edinburgh

The Sasine Office, located within the General Register House on Princes Street in Edinburgh, was designed by W T Oldrieve and built between 1902 and 1904. This three-storey building with a basement features polished cream sandstone ashlar, showcasing channelled banded rustication and arcading at the ground level. The windows are architraved, and there is a mutulated cornice.

On the east elevation, the building has six bays, with the end bays projecting forward. These feature pedimented first-floor windows that have balustraded aprons. The elevation is topped with a balustraded parapet. The south elevation consists of two bays and includes a link to the Register House, bridging the basement at the ground and first floors, with a modern upper section that has a lunette window. The west elevation has five bays.

The building is fitted with timber sash and case windows and has a piended roof covered with grey slates. Inside, there is a large trabeated room on the first floor, which is now connected to the Historical Reading Room of the Register House.
