Description

25 James Craig Walk is a classical tenement building designed by James Craig around 1775. It is a four-storey structure with a basement and attic, featuring six bays and constructed from droved cream sandstone ashlar that has been stone cleaned and patched. The building has long and short quoins and an eaves cornice.

The front elevation has a rubble basement and the bays are slightly displaced from the center. It features Roman Doric pilastered doorpieces, with one located at the center left leading to the common stair (No 25) and another at the center for the main door. The central two bays have an open pedimented nepus gable with an apex stack, while small dormers are present in the outer bays.

The rear elevation is seven bays wide and made of rubble. The central three bays are flanked by five-storey gabled sections on the right, and the outer bays are bowed and also five-storey. There are decorative cast-iron balconies on the second floor of the left bow. The rubble gables include windows at the center.

The building features timber sash and case 12-pane windows, with ashlar coped skews, rebuilt corniced ashlar stacks, and grey slates. The hoppers are dated 1995. The interior was not seen in 1995.
